Philosophy Statement
Pre-Kindergarten Through Fourth Grade
Highpointe Children's Academy believes that all children, regardless of what their natural capabilities for learning might be, have needs for love, success, acceptance, independence, knowledge, and sharing. Dedicated to providing a strong academic foundation for each child, Highpointe Children's Academy is also committed to nurturing those developmental needs, which are so important to the child's overall growth. The cornerstone of education must be a loving and supportive environment in which students are encouraged to learn and are recognized as individuals with individual needs. Making these needs a priority will result in the development of a positive self-concept, which is the ultimate goal of Highpointe Children's Academy.
In addition to the need for confidence in his or her own abilities, a child in today's world must be equipped as never before with self-help skills and knowledge, which will enable him or her to become a successful and productive member of society. The world has become multifaceted and highly mediated, requiring children to develop more sophisticated and creative ways of dealing with their environment. They need a broader base of knowledge in order to continue to discover, explore, experiment, and learn about the world around them, and as a result, to contribute to society's growth and development. In order to meet these responsibilities, children need to develop skills in problem solving and independent learning, in addition to acquiring essential academic and developmental elements.
Two of the most important elements in our curriculum are language development and communication. Language is the basis on which all learning is founded and communication is the means by which all language is taught. We keep language arts at the center of our programs because of our conviction that a strong educational foundation can only be acquired through the mastery of reading, writing, speaking and listening. At the same time, proficiency in communication skills assist the student in becoming autonomous through the development of interpersonal relationships.
Seven development areas that address the individual needs of the child are incorporated into our comprehensive curriculum. These areas include self concept (development of positive feelings about oneself and one's abilities), communication (ability to participate in the exchange of thoughts and ideas with others), interpersonal skills (emergent awareness of others and effective involvement in social relationships), responsibility and citizenship (nurturing the emergence of duty and accountability to others), economic awareness (beginning to develop prudent consumer skills), vocational awareness (familiarity with career paths and skills needed to attain them), and independent growth and creativity (cultivation of divergent thinking and creative expression). By promoting these skills, Highpointe Children's Academy helps children become responsible individuals and interact effectively with others, preparing them to meet the demands of an ever-changing world.
The academic needs of students at Highpointe Children's Academy are met through a well-rounded curriculum which includes each of these content areas: English / language arts, mathematics, science, fine arts, health, social studies, and physical education. All of our classes include the elements required by the State Board of Education as outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills requirements.
Pre-Kindergarten
Our pre-kindergarten program exposes young learners to an exciting academic world. We begin to develop the pre-reading and pre-writing skills necessary for kindergarten. We also focus on the social skills, interacting with other children and adults, as well as manners. The children have physical education, computers, Spanish, art, and music that are included in their regular program. They can also participate in dance, karate, or gymnastics as extracurricular activities.
Kindergarten
We provide a full day kindergarten program with the school day beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finishing at 3:30 p.m. each day. Extended care is also available as we are open from 6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., and there is no extra charge for the service.
Our curriculum is a very strong phonics program. We use the Open Court reading program and expose the children to an extensive amount of literature in order to help them begin to read during the school year. The reading program instills the following language skills: literary discovery, phonics, story crafting, reading, and grammar. The children have physical education, computers, Spanish, art, and music that are included in their regular school day.
Elementary
We have students in the first grade through the fourth grade. Our school day is from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. each day. Extended care is also available as we are open from 6:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., and there is no extra charge for the service.
Our curriculum is based upon the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Requirements. Physical education, computers, music, Spanish, and art are included as part of their school day. The children can also participate in dance or karate as an extracurricular activity.
Before / After School
